The Northport, NY Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for a Chief of Staff. The Northport VAMC is a multilevel health care Center of Excellence, fully accredited by the Joint Commission, and Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and comprised of 93 Med/Surg/Psych operating beds and 139 Nursing Home Care Unit operating beds. You will work with the Director, the Associate Director and the Associate Director/Patient Care Services as a full member of the Medical Center's Executive Management Team. The Chief of Staff serves as the full assistant to the Director in leading and managing this highly active and complex 270-bed general medical, surgical, psych, research, and teaching VA Medical Center with a 139-bed Nursing Home Care Unit. The Chief of Staff actively participates in top management discussions, decisions, and policymaking, and shares in the responsibility for the development and implementation of long and short-range policies and plans. As a member of the executive management team, the Chief of Staff is held accountable for the success of the Medical Center's various programs.
The Chief has line authority over the inpatient, outpatient and mental health programs so that these programs are fully integrated and support the clinical services of the Medical Center. The Chief is responsible for the development, organization, implementation, and support of patient care, education, and research activities of the clinical and allied health services within the VA Medical Center. As such, the Chief of Staff is the ranking medical official at the VA Medical Center and is responsible for the quality of care and the utilization of health care resources.
You will function in an administrative role and, accordingly, must have strong managerial and organizational skills as well as extensive clinical knowledge and administrative experience. He/she would be expected to demonstrate strong analytic skills, data driven management and to contribute to proactive initiatives that improve patient care. He/she is accountable to the facility Director for seeing that appropriate staff practitioners are credentialed and privileged in accordance to Joint Commission and VA requirements.
Experience as a health care administrator is required. Ideal candidates will have a work history that demonstrates experience managing and leading clinical staff and delivering high quality patient care while managing essential administrative functions such as budget execution and resource allocation. The Chief of Staff position requires comprehensive knowledge of the missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of health care delivery systems; thorough familiarity with the regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing organizations; and broad knowledge of the various administrative areas, such as budget, human resources, and procurement. Board certification is required.
